Developing Malaria Control Capacity in Africa
Given the enormous amount of work required to meet the 2010 and 2015 malaria targets, it is vital that countries are equipped with knowledge and skills to plan early and realistically to effectively deploy resources. Malaria No More's investments in this area are intended to help facilitate the transfer of technical know how around mass mosquito net campaigns from the global level to the country level. They are also intended to help ensure that the net campaigns take place efficiently and on time.

Building a Net Culture in Africa
As the global health community strives to reach universal access to malaria prevention and treatment tools by 2010, utilization looms as a significant future challenge. The desired reductions in malaria incidences and deaths will not be realized if people do not use the provided tools. In order to see a real decrease in malaria related mortality, individuals must embrace a new and enduring culture of universal mosquito net usage and malaria treatment.

Systemic Finance: NetGuarantee
Although significant resources have been mobilized for malaria control, the process of accessing critical interventions must be accelerated and improved in order to effectively reach vulnerable populations. The timely delivery of commodities, such as LLINs, is currently hampered by a sequenced procurement process that usually starts only after a GFATM grant is disbursed. Malaria No More seeks to address this challenge through NetGuarantee, an innovative financing initiative designed to accelerate access to malaria prevention tools in Sub-Saharan Africa by allowing the grant signature and procurement processes to run in parallel.

AMP Logistics Training
Thanks to a marked increase in funding, African countries are absorbing billions of dollars for malaria control over the next few years to reach the 2010 universal coverage goal. It’s vital that these countries be equipped with the expertise and skills to build aggressive and effective action plans. To support countries in this effort, Malaria No More is working with the Malaria Control and Evaluation Partnership in Africa (MACEPA) to conduct regional training workshops with National Malaria Control Programs from 32 different African countries. Led by the Alliance for Malaria Prevention (AMP), the workshops provide an opportunity for countries to share best practices, get advice from African and international experts and create strategies for implementing, monitoring and evaluating mass bed-net distribution campaigns.
