Why us? Why malaria? AngelPoints CEO Andy mercy

In my early twenties, I lived in Senegal, an experience that changed my life and set me on a direction that would lead to my founding of AngelPoints. One of the tough things I witnessed firsthand was the devastation of malaria in villages across the country. Historically, malaria has not received the same media attention as HIV/AIDS, but for children under the age of five it is the single leading cause of death in sub-Saharan Africa. Together, we can help stop this fully preventable disease.

I invite you to donate one or more life-saving bed nets today and help end malaria's toll once and for all. Only with your help can we provide 20,000 lifesaving bed nets by April 25, 2007, the date of the first ever National Malaria Awareness Day in the United States. These bed nets can and will save thousands of childrens' lives, not to mention the lives of their parents and loved-ones.

Malaria is not a difficult disease to understand:

  • Malaria kills an estimated one million children every year—one child every 30 seconds.
  • Annually, between 350 and 500 million people are infected with malaria leading to devastating symptoms and over one million deaths.
  • Malaria is preventable–with just $10, a bed net can save a child's life.

I ask you to work with me to bring an end to this scourge. Alone, we can each save at least one child. United, we can save whole communities, villages, and regions.

About Malaria No More
Malaria No More logo United Way logo

Malaria No More's mission is simple: to end deaths due to malaria. The world has known how to beat this disease for more than a century, yet it remains the number one killer of children under five in sub-Saharan Africa, claiming more than 1 million lives a year. Malaria No More engages individuals, organizations, and corporations in the private sector to provide life-saving bed nets and other critical interventions to families in need. Together, these investments will significantly reduce malaria infections and make malaria-related deaths a thing of the past.

Founded in 2006 by leading non-governmental institutions, Malaria No More works in partnership with the United Way of America, President's Malaria Initiative, UNICEF, American Red Cross, The Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Millennium Promise, United Nations Foundation, Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and others.

In Africa, malaria is the leading cause of death in children under 5. More information about malaria >

Join the movement White House Summit on malaria

In December 2006, the White House Summit on Malaria jumpstarted a movement in the private sector to join with significant and increasing resources from the public sector and bolster the winnable fight against malaria. Corporations, community and religious organizations, schools, teams and groups of all kind are joining this fight, raising awareness and saving lives. Everyone, from a young girl at her local Boys & Girls Club to the CEO of a large U.S. corporation, can make a difference.

American Idol Gives Back

April 25, 2007 will mark the first recognized Malaria Awareness Day in the United States. This day is commemorated globally to raise awareness of malaria and reaffirm commitment to end its devastation. Major media attention and events, such as FOX's American Idol "Idol Gives Back" special, will encourage public support of this critical cause. Spread the word about malaria and its $10 solution. Join the movement to make malaria no more. Never before has there been such an influx of funding, focus and attention on malaria. NOW is our window of opportunity to end a serious global child killer. One bed net. $10. Save a life.
