The University of Notre Dame's Millennium Development Goals Task Force, led by four sophomores and with the backing of their professors raised over $10,000 from students and faculty, helping protect 1000 people from mosquitoes that transmit malaria. Working in collaboration with the Sophomore Class Council and Progressive Student Alliance, and with the support of the Center for Social Concerns, the groups launched the Malaria Bed Net Campaign as their first major campus action. They held a candle-light vigil to raise awareness about malaria, and collected donations on campus before holidays, providing purchasers with certificates to honor their contributions.
