Sixth Graders Knit Scarves to Fight Malaria

Socorro-NM-kids.jpgIn Socorro, New Mexico, Kim Berlat's sixth grade language arts class recently took on a service project to help end malaria deaths in Africa.  With the goal of raising $100, students spent several months knitting and crocheting scarves that they then sold for $5 each.  The net result of the project was $220 - more than double the original goal!  Their efforts have even been highlighted by the local newspaper.  See some local press on their great project.
