About the Technical Writer Position
The Technical Writer is responsible for creating all internal and external communications surrounding MNM's impact programs in Africa. Audiences include: MNM Director of Communications who is preparing messages for the all mainstream media and technical journals (like the Lancet,) donors and potential donors, the MNM Board of Directors, MNM staff, the MNM Policy Center, MNM affiliates and multilateral organizations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop a thorough understanding of each of the three MNM program areas (Demand Creation and Advocacy, Innovative Finance and Capacity Development)
- Interface with the MNM Program and Development (fundraising) Teams to gather information and direction for written documents
- Prepare funding proposals, power point presentations, presentations for management's use at conferences, etc.
- Service MNM program information needs of the MNM Policy Center and all MNM affiliates to help maximize public advocacy opportunities
Qualifications
- 6-8 years professional writing in one or more of the following areas: technical writing, journalism, technical journals, political commentary journals, web content
- Ability to take complex topics and distill them into material appropriate for many different audiences
- Self-starter; comfort working in dynamic environment
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Work or travel experience in Africa or other regions in the developing world
- Experience working in health, development, or marketing fields
- Ability to work independently, while coordinating closely with mgmt and NYC staff
