Today, Malaria No More, a nonprofit organization determined to help end malaria deaths in Africa, will bring former American Idol finalists Jason Castro (Season 7, 4th place), Melinda Doolittle (Season 6, 3rd place) and Elliott Yamin (Season 5, 3rd place) to Washington, D.C. to meet with members of Congress to voice American support for the malaria fight and celebrate the contributions of the U.S. Government.

NetGuarantee LLC announced today that Mozambique is the first country to have used its innovative finance mechanism to speed the delivery of life-saving mosquito nets to protect people against malaria. In November of 2011, 250,000 nets, delivered with the support of NetGuarantee, arrived in port in Mozambique – months earlier than would have otherwise been possible and just ahead of Mozambique’s peak malaria transmission season.

Malaria No More announced that it has received a generous grant of $1 million from the ExxonMobil Foundation to help the organization expand its successful malaria education and advocacy programs in Chad and Cameroon through the award-winning NightWatch program.

Smash star Katharine McPhee has joined forces with Malaria No More on the “Dream Big” campaign, an effort to help end malaria deaths in Africa and help children achieve their dreams. Beginning today, people can text “DREAM” to 85944 for the chance to take a trip to Africa with Katharine McPhee and make a $10 donation to Malaria No More; every donation will treat a child for malaria.

Dr. David Bowen, CEO of Malaria No More, will testify at a hearing of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health and Human Rights, "Fighting Malaria: Progress and Challenges." Thanks to U.S. government support, the world has seen remarkable advancements in the fight against malaria, including halving the number of malaria cases in over 40 countries and reducing deaths by over 20 percent in the last five years.

The Peace Corps and Malaria No More, an organization determined to end malaria deaths in Africa by 2015, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) October 31, 2011 to combine forces in malaria prevention in Africa.

Malaria No More announced today that Dr. David Bowen is joining the organization as its new Chief Executive Officer starting November 28th. Most recently Deputy Director for Global Health Policy and Advocacy at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Dr. Bowen brings a broad range of knowledge and expertise to the role.

Before joining this season’s cast of Dancing with The Stars, actor David Arquette took his first trip to Africa with nonprofit organization Malaria No More. While there, David distributed mosquito nets to families in need, talked with parents who are working to protect their children from malaria and met with village chiefs to learn how their communities are fighting the deadly disease.

Cameroon launched its first-ever universal coverage campaign on Saturday, as the government and health partners aim to distribute 8.7 million mosquito nets to families across the country over the coming months. ExxonMobil Foundation and MTN are supporting this life-saving effort to help end malaria, a preventable disease that takes the life of an African child every 45 seconds. Private-sector leaders are showing how business is helping lead the way to a malaria-free Cameroon.
