New York, NEW YORK-Jeff Smith has joined Malaria No More as its Chief Marketing Officer, the New York-based non-profit organization announced today. As founder and former CEO of GRI Media Group, Smith brings a wealth of experience in marketing, branding and communications to his new role. Smith reaffirms Malaria No More's commitment to strategic marketing as a crucial component of the race to end malaria deaths and will help amplify and extend the organization's successful efforts to shine a spotlight on the disease.
"Jeff joins Malaria No More at a critical time for the malaria community," said Malaria No More Chairman Peter Chernin. "Our success depends upon breakthrough, creative ideas that keep malaria a global priority-a crucial element in the race to end malaria deaths in Africa by 2015."
Prior to joining Malaria No More, Smith created Exhibit Darfur, an artistic collaboration with Mia Farrow, Brian Steidle and others to draw high-level attention and support for the fight to end genocide in Sudan. Exhibit Darfur, a collection of images from six celebrated artists, has traveled from the 2008 DNC in Denver to Harvard University to Hollywood, showing how effective marketing tools can help achieve advocacy and humanitarian goals.
"We're thrilled that Jeff is bringing his entrepreneurial attitude and creative approach to the Malaria No More team," said Scott Case, CEO of Malaria No More. "Jeff has a great track-record of implementing high-impact marketing strategies that generate outsized results-and that's exactly what is needed to end malaria deaths."
Smith has worked extensively in the private sector, developing marketing strategies and campaigns for clients including Cingular Wireless, AT&T, Comcast, Red Bull, Ford Motors and Wrangler Jeans, among others. In his role as CMO, he will manage Malaria No More's global marketing strategy, brand awareness, donor base building, business-to-consumer and national marketing, and communications strategies. He will build and expand upon the success of Malaria No More's marketing partnerships with American Idol, FC Barcelona, Patrón Highcroft Racing and others.
"I'm excited to be joining the exceptionally talented team at Malaria No More," said Smith. "The organization has made tremendous impact by raising the level of awareness about malaria in the U.S. and abroad. I look forward to joining this passionate and committed group to do all we can to make malaria no more."
Jeff brings over 15 years of general management, marketing strategy and business development to his role. He holds a Bachelors degree from the Miami University, Richard T.
