2025 Highlights

The next phase of this fight will require sustained commitment, smart investment, and continued collaboration – but the tools, partnerships, and knowledge to drive impact are stronger than ever.

NO ONE SHOULD DIE FROM A MOSQUITO BITE

Your partnership and support fuels Malaria No More’s work to mobilize the political commitment, funding, and innovation required to achieve what would be one of the greatest humanitarian accomplishments – eliminating malaria in our lifetime.

LETTER FROM OUR CEO

To our partners and supporters —

2025 was a defining year for global health. Major changes to the global aid system — including the rapid dismantling and reorganization of longstanding programs — created deep uncertainty for malaria programs and the communities they serve.

In this moment of transition, Malaria No More worked to keep malaria on the global health agenda. The team made a clear economic and strategic case for sustained U.S. leadership and investment by underscoring the strong return on prevention. Our argument is powerful: Eliminating malaria saves lives, improves health systems, advances economic growth, and reinforces long-term stability and security.

This progress reflects the dedication of our team and partners, as well as the steady leadership of my predecessor, the incomparable Martin Edlund, whose guidance and wisdom over many years positioned our organization to navigate change with clarity and focus.

As we enter our 20th anniversary year in 2026, I see real reason for optimism. Advances in innovation and stronger country-level leadership, including growing alignment across governments, partners, and the private sector, are creating the conditions to accelerate progress. The next phase of this fight will require sustained commitment, smart investment, and continued collaboration — but the tools, partnerships, and knowledge to drive impact are stronger than ever. The landscape has changed, but our mission has not. Together, we can meet this moment and move closer to a world where no one dies from a mosquito bite.

Sincerely,

William Steiger, Ph.D.

Our Work Isn’t Finished

In 2024 there were…

U.S. Investments in Malaria

Malaria No More helped to secure robust U.S. funding for global malaria programs, including $795 million for bilateral malaria assistance in the appropriations bill for FY 2026 and a $4.6 billion pledge for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Through testimony before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs, we strengthened bipartisan engagement in Congress and advanced the case for sustained U.S. investment in global malaria efforts.

Defending U.S. Leadership on Malaria

Following a 90-day freeze on U.S. foreign assistance, Malaria No More moved quickly to defend U.S. leadership in global malaria efforts. With partners, we developed new modeling to quantify the impact on commodities, cases, and lives at risk. Our advocacy helped to secure a waiver for life-saving malaria services and support the successful transition of bilateral malaria programs under the U.S. Department of State.

Advancing the Economic Case for Malaria

With Oxford Economics Africa, we quantified the long-term impact of U.S. investments in the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) and the Global Fund, showing a 5.8x return in GDP growth in endemic countries. With the Corporate Council on Africa, we analyzed how malaria shapes the investment landscape for U.S. companies, highlighting more than $4 trillion in potential economic output linked to achieving global malaria goals. We amplified these findings at high-level convenings, including the Concordia Summit during the U.N. General Assembly and ASTMH’s Annual Meeting.

ExCITD Platform: Scaling Innovations for Malaria

Malaria No More partnered with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to launch the ExCITD platform, accelerating efforts to eliminate infectious diseases across the Asia-Pacific. Unveiled at the ADB INSPIRE Forum in Manila, the platform signals a new era of catalytic collaboration and innovation for disease elimination. Former Malaria No More CEO Martin Edlund delivered a keynote address in the main plenary and co-hosted a high-level session, “Unlocking Catalytic Capital to Scale Innovation for Malaria, Dengue & Tuberculosis,” convening global leaders to mobilize financing and partnerships for impact.

Official TICAD Thematic Event on Malaria

For the first time, malaria was featured as an official topic at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), marking a significant milestone in elevating the issue within global development dialogue. The session, “Tackling Africa’s Malaria Crisis,” was organized by Malaria No More and Malaria No More Japan in partnership with the Global Fund, the African Leaders Malaria Alliance, and the RBM Partnership to End Malaria. Drawing more than 100 participants including ministers, corporate leaders, and parliamentarians the event underscored Japan’s leadership to accelerate malaria elimination in Africa.

Korea Delegation Visit

Malaria No More supported the Korean Advocates for Global Health in organizing a high-level parliamentary and private-sector delegation to Uganda, in partnership with the Global Fund and Uganda’s Ministry of Health. The mission included visits to Global Fund-supported facilities and meetings with Uganda’s Prime Minister, Speaker of Parliament, and Minister of Health. Following the visit, delegation leaders briefed the Korean President’s Office, elevating malaria and global health financing in executive discussions and kept sustained parliamentary advocacy during the Global Fund’s 8th Replenishment. The visit strengthened political champions and helped maintain Korea’s commitment to global malaria efforts during a period of fiscal pressure.

IMACS: Driving AI for Impact

The Institute for Health Modeling and Climate Solutions (IMACS) expanded its programs across 13 countries to advance AI solutions for public health. In 2025, IMACS delivered national early-warning systems in Bangladesh and Sierra Leone, convened the ClimateSmart Indonesia Innovation Forum, partnered with the University of Maryland to launch a NASA-funded malaria and dengue research initiative, and advanced SPECTRA, an AI-powered disease forecasting model. Supported by the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation and Amazon Environmental Equity, IMACS also established its Central Data and Analytics Hub and developed an AI Foundation Model designed to power next-gen global health intelligence.
