Washington, D.C. — Dr. William (Bill) Steiger, Chief Executive Officer of Malaria No More, issued the following statement upon the appointment of Ambassador Mark Dybul, M.D., as the next Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria:
We at Malaria No More offer our warm congratulations to Ambassador Mark Dybul, M.D., the next Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. A distinguished leader with unparalleled experience, Ambassador Dybul is exceptionally qualified to return to the world’s largest multilateral health fund to guide it through its next chapter.
His appointment comes as the global campaign against malaria reaches an inflection point: unprecedented innovation is arriving to address the growing threat of insecticide and drug resistance. By making smart investments in new malaria-related tools and technologies, Ambassador Dybul can accelerate progress against the disease rapidly.
In an era of diminishing public resources for health, unlocking new sources of revenue is also paramount. By working with the Board of Directors of the Fund, we hope Ambassador Dybul can release additional resources for malaria by addressing longstanding structural issues with the organization’s funding allocations. Private philanthropies also are powerful partners poised to reshape the financial landscape for global health dramatically, an opportunity the Global Fund should seize to help jumpstart the adoption of a diversity of existing and new tools.
At a time of both profound challenge and historic promise, Ambassador Dybul will be able to move the Global Fund forward skillfully amid shifting international dynamics. Malaria No More will remain a steadfast partner to the Global Fund during his tenure, and a relentless champion in our shared mission to ensure no one dies from a mosquito bite.
