Washington, D.C. —Dr. William (Bill) Steiger, Chief Executive Officer of Malaria No More, issued the following statement in response to a partnership announced today between the U.S. Department of State, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund), and SC Johnson to procure and distribute SC Johnson’s Guardian™ spatial repellents in malaria-endemic countries:

SC Johnson’s Guardian™ spatial repellent is a powerful new tool in the fight against malaria. Small, simple, and effective, it provides continuous protection for a year — an important advantage as mosquito behavior evolves.  The agreement between the State Department and the Global Fund to bring Guardian™ to 60 million people in malaria-endemic countries could not come at a more critical time.  Mosquitoes are a formidable foe, and Guardian™ is exactly the kind of American-led innovation that will help turn the tide against malaria.

On behalf of Malaria No More, I applaud the vision and generosity of Fisk Johnson and his family, without which this partnership would not have been possible.  I had the honor of visiting the factory in Nairobi, Kenya, where SC Johnson manufactures Guardian™, and I commend the incredible work of the entire team at the company who invented and make this breakthrough product.

This partnership should serve as a model for other innovative American health products with the potential to create impact at scale.
