Washington, D.C. — Dr. William (Bill) Steiger, Chief Executive Officer of Malaria No More, issued the following statement upon the passing of Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC):

We are saddened by the passing of Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the strongest and most consistent champions global health has ever had in the United States Senate. For decades, Senator Graham fought to sustain American investment in programs like the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, understanding that this work saves lives, reflects American values and leadership, and strengthens our health security.

In 2014, Malaria No More honored Senator Graham with our Malaria Vision Award for his indispensable leadership on the Appropriations Subcommittee on the State Department, Foreign Operations and Related Programs. That leadership never wavered. Countless people around the world are alive today because of it.

Our thoughts are with Senator Graham’s family, his staff, and the people of South Carolina.
