April 23, 2025 (Washington, DC)- Malaria No More CEO Martin Edlund issued the following statement ahead of World Malaria Day 2025:
This World Malaria Day, unlike those in the recent past, is not a celebration of progress but a stark reminder that the U.S. must remain in this fight. Pulling back now would mean reversing decades of progress and put millions of lives at risk.
Thanks to U.S. leadership and global partnership over the last 20 years, we have helped avert 2.2 billion cases of malaria and saved nearly 13 million lives. But just last year, 600,000 people died of malaria—most of them women and young children.
U.S. anti-malaria programs are already recognized as the most cost-effective way to save a human life but ending malaria once and for all will require both renewed political will and innovative new tools. We look forward to working with Congress and the Administration to preserve malaria as a U.S. priority and maintain investment in these critical, life-saving programs.
