A fully funded, transparent, and accountable Global Fund is critical in the fight to end HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria around the world. As a result of increased investment and a results-driven focus, the Global Fund is responsible for saving more than 22 million lives globally since its inception. In the prevention and control of malaria, Global Fund-supported programs treated more than 668 million malaria cases and distributed 795 million insecticide treated bed nets. Globally, almost 7 million lives have been saved from malaria since 2000, due in large part to effective investments made by the Global Fund.
Continued financial investments are necessary and will ensure that the tremendous progress-to-date in halting these preventable and treatable diseases is not wasted.
As an experienced private sector leader, Malaria No More looks forward to working with Sands to sustain current donor country funding, secure additional funds from malaria-affected countries and prioritize finding new partners to help fight malaria. Sands’s extensive management and financial expertise also will be essential for ensuring the Global Fund’s commitment to having greater impact through continued transparency and accountability in driving an end to these epidemics.
