London, April 18, 2018 – Malaria No More applauds the significant commitments and call-to-action announced today at the Malaria Summit, alongside the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London.
These commitments, including $4.1 billion in funding, will catalyze renewed action to end malaria, at a time when more than a decade of progress against the preventable disease has stalled.
If Commonwealth leaders follow through with the commitment, it could prevent 350 million malaria cases and save 650,000 lives across Commonwealth countries over the next five years.
Strong political will in countries that carry the burden of more than 50 percent of the world’s malaria will be critical to getting progress against malaria back on track.
Beating this disease also requires a robust pipeline of innovative tools and more funding, especially from malaria-affected countries. Today’s Malaria Summit commitments build on longstanding support and leadership by the United States, the leading funder in the malaria fight. They will go a long way toward ensuring that we can end this disease within a generation.
