MALARIA NO MORE STATEMENT ON THE APPOINTMENT OF DR. DAVID WALTON AS U.S. GLOBAL MALARIA COORDINATOR

Washington, D.C., August 16, 2022— Malaria No More CEO Martin Edlund issued the following statement upon the announcement that President Biden has appointed Dr. David Walton the next U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator:

Malaria No More welcomes the appointment of Dr. David Walton, a physician with a track record of building health systems and fighting disease outbreaks in some of the hardest to reach areas on the planet, as Global Malaria Coordinator. Malaria frontline testing and treatment programs are a key building block of an effective primary health care system.

After multiple years of setbacks due to Covid, U.S. leadership on malaria is more important than ever before. We look forward to working with Dr. Walton in his new role to tackle the dual challenges of Covid and malaria through frontline fever testing and ensure the success of PMI’s ambitious 5-year plan to “End Malaria Faster,” which will save an incremental 4 million lives through innovation.

We are grateful to Acting Coordinator Julie Wallace for her steadfast leadership to advance the PMI agenda in recent months, and for her many years of service to the cause.
