May 11, 2017 (WASHINGTON) – Malaria No More congratulates Ambassador Mark Andrew Green on the President’s Nomination to serve as the next Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
“Mark Green has long-been a champion in the malaria fight and we look forward to working with him, if confirmed, to help end this terrible preventable and treatable disease,” said Martin Edlund, CEO of Malaria No More.
As a Member of Congress, Green helped advance legislation supporting results-based and accountable global health and development programs, and has been a champion of making foreign aid more effective through reforms to deliver strong outcomes. During his time in Congress he also was a champion of orphans and vulnerable children, particularly through global health initiatives.
As the United States Ambassador to Tanzania, Green oversaw major global health and economic development programs on behalf of the American people. Programs such as the President’s Malaria Initiative have had transformative effects on the country, while advancing U.S. strategic interests and diplomatic relations.
“Ambassador Green is an excellent choice for the critical role of USAID Administrator as someone who worked on the front lines in advancing American global health security and diplomacy,” said Josh Blumenfeld, Managing Director of Malaria No More’s Washington, DC office.
U.S. investments in the fight to eliminate malaria have proven to be among the best buys in global health. Since 2000, U.S.-led efforts to combat malaria have helped save nearly seven million lives and avert more than one billion cases. Overall malaria deaths have declined by more than 60 percent in the same period. However, malaria remains a daily threat with half the world’s population still at risk.
Mark Green formerly served as the founding Managing Director of Malaria No More’s Washington, DC office where he forged critical bipartisan support among his former colleagues in Congress for the malaria fight, and was critical in helping to save lives from malaria worldwide.
Malaria No More urges quick consideration of Ambassador Green’s nomination in the United States Senate.
